Não existe uma espécie de peixe chamada bacalhau. Na verdade, é dado o nome de bacalhau à peixes específico, depois de um processo de salga e secura.
Mas somente as espécies Gadus morhua, Gadus macrocephalus e Gadus ogac podem ser chamadas de bacalhau após o processo.
